Bio
Yomi Ship are an instrumental psychedelic/progressive rock trio from Perth, Western Australia.
Drawing influences from experimental rock giants The Mars Volta and King Crimson, as well as the sounds of psychedelic space rock from early Pink Floyd, Yomi Ship have forged their own blend of experimental art rock, delivering soundscapes filled with unorthodox structures and rhythms, anchoring bass and dreamy melodies that are full of surprises.
Yomi Ship has been a consistent and in demand presence in the Perth music scene since 2016, featuring on eclectic mixed line-ups and festivals. Yomi Ship is enjoying the meteoric rise to the pool of highly respected bands, including support slots for Karnivool, COG, CHON (US) and world reknowned guitar maestro Plini.
Following on from the release of their fourth EP 'Of Agartha', 2022 sees Yomi Ship joining Aus prog royalty for the Monolith Festival Tour, once again playing along side Karnivool, COG and Plini.

“The three-piece Yomi Ship set the tone minutes before the first notes filled the venue, lighting incense at their feet between two impressive pedalboards. What followed—to the delight of every fan of progressive music in the room—was an eclectic string of odd-timed tracks that walked the line between fun and the psychedelic.” - Levi Dale
“The dynamics throughout are breath taking as the compositions range from gentle and introspective to abstract with flurries into loudness. For a band firmly entrenched in the progressive category and without a defined genre attribute, they make fantastic use of repetition balanced with eclecticism.” - Sono Muerto
“Yomi Ship have cemented themselves as one of the brightest stars in the Perth musical cosmos. The recent release of their third EP, Of Agartha, has seen the group continue their upward trajectory and it was with anticipation and high expectations that a near-capacity crowd gathered at The Bird on Friday night for the launch.” - Michael Hollick
“The main thing that remains consistent with Yomi Ship is their effortless ability to craft weirdly beautiful music that captivates without ever falling back on the obvious, their innate skill as musicians and composers enabling them to discover new and interesting ways to dazzle and beguile with their gently perplexing sound. ” - Zack Yusof
“‘It’s testament to the young trio’s bravery and experimental nature that these totally instrumental songs create such cinematic feelings and emotion in the listener....a musical tour de force that, stylistically, darts this way and that – a true journey – through avant-jazz, Middle Eastern flavours, tribal rhythms and dream-state near-funk grooves. It’s intoxicating, and a trip well worth taking, preferably with the lights off and your focus 100% on the music.” - Shane Pinnegar
“Yomi Ship’s music traversed its way across lots of genres and whilst obviously taking inspiration from a very wide range of sources, it still all sounds like it belongs together and comes out a very polished and intriguing product that just makes you want to listen more and more. I highly recommend catching Yomi Ship if you can, their live show is something that isn’t to be missed.”
